Naples, FL

SPECIAL ENGAGEMENT

Mencia started his career by doing stand-up comedy on “amateur night” at the world-famous Laugh Factory comedy club. Later, he did a show at The Comedy Store, where he became a regular and started performing every night. Mencia was named “International Comedy Grand Champion” by Buscando Estrellas after he did well in the L.A. comedy scene (the Latino version of Star Search). This led to appearances on shows like “In Living Color,” “The Arsenio Hall Show,” “Moesha,” and “An Evening at the Improv.” In the beginning of 2005, “Mind of Mencia” made its debut on Comedy Central. It was one of the most popular shows in the history of the network, with an average of about 1.5 million viewers. Carlos Mencia was in charge of making “Mind of Mencia.”

Mencia comes from a poor family. He is the 17th of 18 children and was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. When he was about three months old, his parents sent him to live with his aunt and uncle in the Maravilla Projects in Los Angeles, California. Mencia moved back to Honduras when he was in his early teens. His family wanted him to stay away from the dangerous gang culture in East Los Angeles. When Mencia went back to Los Angeles, he did so well in school that he was moved up to the tenth grade right away. Soon after that, he did well enough at Garfield High School to graduate. In 2002, Mencia led a comedy tour called “The Three Amigos” with Freddy Soto and Pablo Francisco that sold out in record time all over the United States. He was also in the independent movies “Outta Time” and “29 Palms” and made guest appearances on shows like “The Shield” and “The Bernie Mac Show.” For his HBO special, which aired in 2002, he was nominated for a CableACE Award in 2002 for Best Stand-Up Comedy Special. “Mind of Mencia” began to be made that same year. After the first season, Comedy Central brought Mencia back for his own stand-up special, “Carlos Mencia: No Strings Attached.” The DVD was the first Comedy Central Stand-up Special to sell over a million copies. In the beginning of 2005, “Mind of Mencia” made its debut on Comedy Central. It was one of the most popular shows in the history of the network, with an average of about 1.5 million viewers. Carlos Mencia and Robert Morton (“Late Night with David Letterman”) were the show’s executive producers. Mencia starred with Ben Stiller and Michelle Monaghan in the hit movie THE HEARTBREAK KID (DreamWorks). And in OUR FAMILY WEDDING (FOX Searchlight), a comedy about a family, with America Ferrara and Forrest Whitaker. In 2007, Mencia went on a USO Tour to the Persian Gulf to perform for the troops who were stationed there. In 2008, Mencia went to Kuwait to host “Operation MySpace,” an exclusive concert for American troops in the Middle East. Jessica Simpson and The Pussycat Dolls also performed at the concert. In April 2008, the show aired on FX. In 2009, Mencia went on a USO tour that took him to Turkey, Kirkuk, Baghdad, Qatar, Afghanistan, and many other places. Mencia has recently returned to his comedy roots by performing at a number of comedy clubs. This gives him a chance to show his new material to a smaller audience. His current tour is called the “C 4 Urself Tour,” and he has been performing for crowds all over the country.
