The musicians of the Naples Philharmonic start the 2022–23 Sypert Salon series with an intimate afternoon of chamber works, starting with Emilie Mayer’s String Quartet in G Minor from the 19th century. The quartet is an exciting piece that moves quickly from beginning to end. It is a great way to start the season. After the quartet, the String Quintet No. 1 shows how talented Felix Mendelssohn was from the start. Mendelssohn wrote the quintet when he was 17 years old. It was written soon after his famous String Octet. Even though he was young, Mendelssohn’s sounds and his skill with the strings are all over the piece.
